As all road safety professionals know, young drivers are at high risk of crashing when they obtain a full licence and begin to drive unsupervised. As an example, an 18-year-old is at six times higher risk of crashing than their parents and at three times higher risk of crashing than a 35-year-old who has just passed their driving test.
Finding ways of reducing crashes and casualties caused by young, newly qualified drivers is a key challenge for the Government, road safety professionals and private sector organisations such as insurance companies.
Now in its sixth year, Young Driver Focus 2019 will examine current and future thinking with regard to this vital issue, and what is being done now and in the future to improve the situation.
Organised by Road Safety GB working in partnership with FirstCar and the RAC Foundation, Young Driver Focus is designed to be of interest to:
• Public sector road safety professionals – road safety officers, fire & rescue, police and others involved in road safety delivery
• Private sector organisations and individuals with an interest in working in partnership with the road safety profession.
To register interest in attending please contact Richard Storrs and she will add you to the database to ensure you are notified when the booking form goes live.
The Royal Automobile Club was founded in 1897 by Frederick Richard Simms and its distinguished history mirrors that of motoring itself. 10 years later, in 1907, King Edward VII awarded the Club the Royal title that it still holds to this day, sealing the Club’s status as Britain’s oldest and most influential motoring organisation.
Young Driver Focus will be held in the stately Mountbatten Room. Overlooking Pall Mall, the room’s mirrored panels, marble fireplaces, chandeliers and sumptuous soft furnishings lend an air of prestige and elegance to any event.

By car: Pall Mall is a two-way street. A cashless parking system is now in place on Pall Mall and surrounding streets, whereby motorists pay by inputting their details, via a phone call or text message. Local car parks can be found at Spring Gardens.
By public transport: nearest mainline railway stations are Victoria and Charing Cross. Nearest tube stations are Green Park on the Victoria Line, Piccadilly on the Piccadilly Line and Charing Cross on the Bakerloo or Northern Line.
From Green Park tube, go east along Piccadilly, then turn right into St James’s Street and at the end, turn left into Pall Mall. From Piccadilly tube, go down Lower Regent Street, towards Waterloo Place, and turn right into Pall Mall at the end. From Charing Cross station go towards Trafalgar Square, then turn down Cockspur Street, and continue past Waterloo Place.
Please note that the RAC Club has a dress code of jackets and ties for gentleman which will apply to delegates attending Young Driver Focus.
The exhibitor zone forms a key part of the day with delegates interested to make connections with key service providers.
We anticipate that around 200 road safety professionals from the public and private sector will attend, providing a very captive and passionate audience. This offers a unique platform for exhibitors to communicate their aims and objectives to a captive audience, who’ve travelled from all over the UK, all under one roof, on one day.
Last year exhibitor space quickly sold out, so capacity for 2018 has been doubled. In order to maximise footfall and networking opportunities, delegate registration, refreshment breaks and the hot buffet lunch will all take place in the exhibitor zone.
Exhibitor space is limited to just eight stands, so space is at a premium to allow companies to showcase their products and services to a very captive audience.
The exhibitor package includes:
- 6m sq. exhibition space
- Delegate brochure: listing in ‘exhibitor showcase’
- Power, wi-fi, table and chairs
- Two delegate passes (worth £390) to include lunch and refreshments.
Required investment: £995 plus VAT
